Anyone having read my previous post on the problems I had upgrading to the current version of VideoList should know that I had a LOT of problems.

I spent a tremendous amout of time trying to solve the problems on my own. Only when I had exhausted my own resources did I resort to this forum and emails to the developer. I complied with the developers suggestions to follow "generic" insturctions to solve my unique problem. None of those instructions worked nor came anywhere near helping. I even emailed various log files. To this date I have not received any indication that those files were even looked at.

To make a long story short I installed and reinstalled VideoList, new version and old over the course of 5 days. Finally my PC had had enough and upon rebooting after uninstalling VideoList would not boot. Would not even boot into safe mode. Needless to say I've had to reformat and reinstall everything on my PC.

Yes I'm a gluton for punishment, I did try to install the new VideoList. I still get the error about the Palm directory, which I'm told will be fixed. Upon starting VideoList on the PC I received a error #53. Something about a file not found. Fortunatly I had backed up some files from my previous attempts and had the file in question. I copied this file into the VideoList install folder and now it all seems to be working.

I can only say this. VideoList in the past has been a rock solid program and the developer has usually been quite helpful. However this time around I can't say that this has been the case.
I have lost valuable data and many many hours of my time.

Will I pay the price to upgrade? I'm not sure. I don't have enough experience with a working copy of this new version. I would like to add that I have searched and have not found a better product for doing what VideoList does.

We have responded to your emails, but at one point you said you had given up and did not intend to pursue it further. I dropped it at that point, based on your email. I also let you know this via email when you had asked about the log files that you sent before telling us you were not interested in working on it further.

Nothing in our installer should prevent your computer from booting. I can't explain the cause, but I also don't know what all was done.

We do have a beta that fixes the palm directory error message, it is here:
http://www.wakefieldsoft.com/beta/videolistplus-setup.exe

If all else fails, there is no reason why version 3.x won't work, although I know you said you had trouble going back.

At this point, I don't see a specific error condition or issue to try to follow up on. If there is one, please let us know and we will work on it.

I would mention that these issues are very unique. No one else has had this much trouble. I say this to let people know that we do a lot of testing before releasing an update.

Thanks.

Shawn,

I realise that there should be nothing in your installer that would cause my PC to die. Installing and uninstalling so many times didn't help it either.

In any event. It's working now. The only issue I had this time was the missing file after installing. I'd seen that problem several times so I knew to keep VideoListAspect.ZIP file left behind by one failed install.

While were on the subject I have a request for the next version and a question about the Graphics folder.

1. File Backup

Add text to the File Backup dialog box making it clear that the default location is NOT a safe place to store your backup. I found this out the hard way.

2. Will the new backup function keep the downloaded graphics with the backup?

Thanks Shawn

The backup will also backup the graphics folder. I have one report of it not restoring the graphics when you restore, so I will be working on that.

I will look and see at our backup dialog. I agree that some extra text in there about choosing a location other than the default, in case you uninstall, would be helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hope to have a new version out by next week, but I have been somewhat swamped lately ;-)

Shawn,

I can now recreate the CASLsync errors.

I'm not sure what's causing it but when I turn on File syncing in ActiveSync CASLsync will error. It's begining to look like a timing problem. I'm now going through all the files I sync and removing them one by one.

Will keep you posted.
