We have not officially tested it with Windows Mobile 5, but it should work.

There is certainly no harm in trying our demo on your WM5 handheld.

Let us know if you do see any particular issues.

Hi...I own a copy of PDACookbook, and was thinking about upgrading (I own 3.X). When I try and install the software (on a new computer with WinXP Pro (media edition) and a new PDA, a Dell with Windows Mobile 2005), the install fails. The desktop software appears to work, and I was able to back up the cookbook on the old computer and restore it on the new with no problem. However, the PDA software does not load. I get an error saying that I need to install MDAC 2.8. When I try to install MDAC 2.8 after downloading it, it says it can't install it on this operating system. Thanks, Jim

What error do you get when installing or running on the PDA?

I tried it again because I didn't write down the error. Today it's different. I get to the screen where it starts the PDA installation (Start Install). It pops up a dialogue box that says "On the next device connection, the installed applications will be downloaded to the device. Then I get the box that says I may need to install MDAC. I click okay, nothing happens. Desktop still works, application is never brought down to the PDA (Not in program list on the device...still not there after syncing several times). Other programs seem to have installed just fine. Thanks, Jim

Is your handheld connected to the PC when you run the install?

If not, try that.

Are you connected with a partnership, not as a guest?

If that does not help, please send these files from C:\Program Files\PDACookbook

caslinstall.log
install.log

Thanks.

I DID set it up that way originally, but not sure how to verify. I have been also mucking with bluetooth (another headache) and may have theoretically messed that up. Thanks so much for your help. Jim

Tried removing it and reestablishing, no dice. Yes, the handheld is connected when I try it. Please see attached files. Thanks again, Jim
P.S. I'll have to post twice as website only allows 1 file. Also, extensions had to be changed to txt files due to not allowing this file type.

I am forwarding this to our ActiveSync developer to see if he can determine the problem.

Thanks.

We have a version 4.1.1 update you can try that has these fixes:

Added manual transfer menu commands for Pocket PC / Windows Mobile users
Updated PC help file

Here is the link to download the update installer:
http://www.wakefieldsoft.com/beta/pdacookbookplus-update.exe
(this link may only be valid until 12/5/2005)

Before installing the update, please use the File / Backup menu command to backup your data.

You will want to do the following to use the manual sync option instead of Activesync, since you have a WM5 device with Activesync 4.x:
1. Open Activesync on your PC, select Tools / Options - make sure PDACookbook is NOT checked
2. Use the new File menu commands on the PC to transfer and retrieve data to/from the handheld

Finally, please let us know if this fixes the issue you were seeing.
