View Full Version : memory card use for PDAcookbook recipies??
Is it possible to store & access PDAcookbook recipes on a memory card installed in a Treo 650? If so, how?

You can't store them on the card and still sync.
Here is more information on memory cards and our apps:

Hi,
I'm guessing the answer is the same, but, can I store the database file in the iPAQ File Store which is still in the PDA memory but obviously not the root memory
cheers

The database are stored in main memory on the Pocket PC / Windows Mobile devices, in order to sync. They are not available to the user directly, but are in the data store.
Thanks.

I know that Dataviz applications store and sync data on external memory without copying it to RAM first. It is also my understanding that OS5 allows applications to access small pieces of a large database on an external card, thus not requiring the entire
file be loaded in RAM.
I really like PDA Cookbook and am looking forward to the next upgrade which will take advantage of these features of PalmOS 5.

Just for general reference for anyone wanting to be able to store program on SD cards or Memory Sticks. I DO have mine stored on my 'memory stick' and it sync's just fine - BUT there is one slight catch. I will list what steps I took to obtain this and you can draw your own conclusions.
I have a Sony Clie T665C, Palm OS 4.1, use Launcher III as my application launcher and also use a program called 'FileZ' for moving files back and forth.
With my application launcher I move the PDACookbook.prc file to the card by sliding it to the icon within Launcher III that controls moving to the card & click on 'move to card', then move it a '2nd time' to the same icon but this time click on 'create shortcut'.
After the shortcut is created - Open the FileZ program and click on 'view files'. Then find the filename labeled *DACookbook. Tap on the filename, when you see a red checkmark beside it click the 'DETAILS' button at the bottom.
In the next screen - go to the Name: *DACookbook and change the * to an _. This shortcut trick lets the Palm think the program is actually stored in main memory and it will 'hotsync' just fine!
I have been using PDA Cookbook with this procedure for a long time and have not had any problems. The only time I move the program back to main memory is when I 'upgrade' to a newer version.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, Pat
