View Full Version : importing a CSV file
Most of the recipes I use will be imported from scanned text. I am having a difficult time creating a CSV file that is successfully recognized by PCACookbook. What are the recognized field delimiters: tab, comma, space, quotes? Are blank lines (separators between sections) ignored? I have attached a simple recipe that I am having trouble importing.

Commas are the best delimiter to use, and you will have to use quotes (") to surround any field that has a comma already in it.
The easiest thing to do based on the format of your recipe will be to use the smart ingredient paste feature if you don't have hundreds of recipes to enter.
You can copy / paste the title first, then you can copy the WHOLE LIST of ingredients, then press Ctrl-S on the keyboard. This will paste the ingredients (AND ANY BLANK LINES) into the Ingredients list, into the correct columns!
Thanks for the tip, it made my day! (I was away and couldn't access my PC to check it out.)
This program is very versatile. I found that the first fields in Nutritional Info are 12 characters long. That accommodates my added Reference field admirably. Copying the recipe to the clipboard displays all 12 characters, while "printing" the recipe truncates these fields to two lines of 6 characters each.
Either exporting the recipe in MasterCook format (no truncaton of fields) or coping to the clipboard, produces excellent transcripton.
A couple of questions (suggestions): 1: Is it possible to export selected recipes to the Palm? 2: If #1 were possible, I could generate the shopping list on the Palm rather than export a file from the PC. 3: Can the recipe data base be stored on a Palm memory card?
I continue to enjoy and explore this product....will register it after I complete this post.
Thanks.

Right now, all recipes are syncing to the Palm. We are looking at allowing multiple cookbooks in the future, and only syncing one to the Palm at a time.
You can generate a shopping list on the Palm from any recipes that are on the Palm handheld.
We don't yet support memory cards, here is our information on that topic:
