I use InfoSafe at work and sync with my Clie there. I don't sync my Clie at home but wonder if it is possible to set up the desktop InfoSafe client even so. I would probably export the data from my work PC and import it into InfoSafe on my home PC if I could figure out how to install it at home. Is this even possible? I guess I could always install the HotSync software for the Clie at home, even though I have no cradle or cable to sync with.
TIA

This was answered by email, but the easiest way to do this would be to install the Palm software and hotsync the handheld to the 2nd PC .

Thanks for the suggestion. As I noted in my original post, I don't have any means of doing a sync on my home PC as I don't have a cradle or second sync cable. Is this really the only way to insall InfoSafe on a second PC? I have no interest in synching my home PC to my Clie since there is very littel overlap between what I do at home and what I do at work. One thing that would be nice to have is a secured list of passwords.
I played around with exporting the data from InfoPlus and then importing it into Access. By password protecting the Access database, I can have a secure version of the PasswordPlus data on my home PC. From time to time I can reexport the data from my work PC and re-import it into Access/ This really seems like overkill but it will do unless you have any other suggestions.
BTW all of the refinements you have built into the desktop client really make this sort of migration easy. Brilliant idea to save the export settings. It seems obvious but very few applications seem to have thought about it. Very slick app in general. Thank you!

It should be possible to run the desktop software on a 2nd PC without any hotsync software installed.
First, install InfoSafe Plus on the 2nd PC. Ignore any error messages about not finding hotsync or palm software, etc.
After installing, you will need to edit a .ini file to tell the PC software where the data files are located.
Open this file with Notepad or another text editor:
c:\Program Files\InfoSafe\infosafeplus.ini
Add this line to the bottom of the file:
DataPath=C:\Program Files\InfoSafe\
Save the .ini file and try to start InfoSafe on the PC.
It should start, but have no data. Close InfoSafe on the 2nd PC.
Now, from the first PC with data, open the same .ini file to see where the data is stored on the first PC.
Copy all files ending in .cdb from that first computer's data directory to the C:\Program Files\InfoSafe directory on the 2nd computer.
That should put all data on the 2nd PC.
Let me know if you have any questions or problems.

Your suggestions worked sort of. I am able to open InfoSafe Plus on my home PC. I did that yesterday and imported a text file that I had exported from my work PC on Friday. But there were only the 17 records I had previuosly imported, not the 50 that I have on my work PC and on my Clie and which should have been contained in the database files I copied from my work PC. I tried reimporting the 50 records from the text file and all 50 showed up in the desktop client at home. BUT I was not asked for a password.
I am not terribly concerned about security on my home PC, but it does seem odd that I'm not asked for a password when I open InfoSafe. Any thought about why this is or how I might fix it?
TIA
David

The import just imported the data, but not the password, since it was exported.
I would copy all .cdb data files from one data directory to the other. This will copy the data, still encrypted, so it will as for the password.
Just look in the infosafeplus.ini file on each computer to determine the data directory (DataPath=) line. Then, copy all .cdb files from the PC you sync with to the other PC.

I copied the 5 cdb files from my work PC to my home PC, opened InfoSafe and was, indeed, asked for a password. I entered the password and InfoSafe opened. Now it shows only 19 records instead of the 50 I have on my work PC. I imported the records from my previous export at work and all was well (except for the duplicate records which I deleted).
I think this will be okay and I sincerely appreciate your assistance. I realize I'm doing something outside the norm by not having a Palm-type connection on my home PC. There is clearly something that isn't working quite right in copying the files form work to home. But it's really just fine. Thanks again for the extraordinary effort.

I've been merrily running InfoSafe on my home PC and somehow managed to wipe out all of the data. I tried doing a backup to a floppy from my PC at work. I copied the files from the floppy to the InfoPlus folder on my home PC, replacing all when prompted to do so. InfoSafe said the restore operation was successful, but it also said I would have to sync to the Palm before I could see any data. I don't have a way of doing that sync on my home PC, but it seems like I should be able to do a restore anyhow.
Any hints much appreciated.

After the restore, the files may have .cdi extensions. The hotsync would fix this, but you can manually changes the .cdi extension to .cdb and it should load your data successfully.

Thanks, Shawn, that was exactly the problem. Awesome support!
